I suggest you ...

Add a keyboard shortcut per tag

That way I could do stuff like ALT-0 to add a common tag to a message etc.

Have you seen the ‘Tagbar’ as this might do what you want it to do? If you go to Configuration / Tags and then tick the ‘Show on Tag Bar’ then each entry on the new toolbar gets a keyboard shortcut, i.e. pressing ALT – 1 will tag your current message without whatever you have assigned to the first button, and so on.

    Is that ok?

9 shortcut keys aren't enough. I currently have all 9 occupied, and there are still a ton I would like to have shortcut keys for.
I tried adding a New Menu item in Outlook, and adding a shortcut key to that menu, then listing all the tags I wanted to have shortcuts to in that menu, also with a shortcut attached. That way, I could have an almost unlimited number of tags in that menu item.
The problem was that Taglocity didn't like it, and all the menu items kept breaking.

If you're not sure what I'm talking about, I'm happy to send you an image of something similar I've done in Excel.
