Good suggestion.
I do want to add that if you ‘right mouse click’ in the ‘Tagger’ area then a menu option appears to tag the entire conversation, but it would be helpful if this was automatic.
Also, what a lot of people do is let some tags ‘travel’ on the message too, as they way any replies come back on the thread tagged, although I understand that isn’t how everyone is comfortable using tags.

Excellent idea. I have a related issue that may be covered by your fix:
My practice is to see an email, decide I need to do a quick (< 2min) reply, click reply and write a brief email. Then I want to tag it before it gets sent. I'd like to be able to make any tags I make to this reply email cascade back to the orginal email. It'd save lots of double tagging.

There is a feature to support this called Roaming Configuration. You enable it on the Settings page in Configuration, then sign in with your free Taglocity account. A copy is saved online, then when you enable it on new computer and sign in, your tags and settings will be transferred.

We’ll have to look into this – perhaps there is some way to tie this into our Auto Assign Tags feature. Thanks for the suggestion.

also, I notice that when I tag an open email message, then close the email, that the tag bar in outlook's inbox view does not appear to show the updated tag info until I move to another email in the inbox then back to the original email. It's be better if it autoupdated this display.
